This Is How You Do It

“This is how you do it: you sit down at the keyboard and you put one word after another until its done. It's that easy, and that hard.”
― Neil Gaiman

Today, my husband finished reading my manuscript and told me that he can tell it's my first. How? Because he's an artist himself and he recognizes the desperation to be good, the talent that so furiously wants to show itself, and the rush to have the world see it. He didn't say all that, really. It came out more like this: "How did I like it? It's okay. I can tell it's your first."

My problem is insurmountable. How can I make it seem like it isn't my first? I can't. Because it is. The best I can do is hurry up and get it over with so I can write another.
